Glad to know that tree rats live elsewhere.
I had no insight into them until one night at some friends house we heard something fall out of the trees and hit the leaves. Then it started moving.
It started running from their cat and ended up jumping into their kitchen window. Hilarity ensued.
Long story short, I end up (as honored guest) grabbing the rat with a potholder on my hand and escorting the rodent off the premises.

Now I look up when I hear rustling. Never assume it's a squirrel.
