One note of mention with glass hydrometers is to make sure they don't float to the side of the glass. They can get stuck to algae or any kind of coating on the glass and not float properly.

Make sure the pumps are all off and let it float in the middle of the water for your best reading.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

HI Victor nice to see you again! thanks for stopping in!

I am too Barb. Especially when they put it in my terms. I scrubbed the thing off with a scrubby and put it back in. It actually had been sitting against the glass btwn the frags and the glass and the filter return. So it had a nice layer of "unnoticed" crap from CA deposits to tiny splashes, to algea. I have it back reading a good 1.025 and it needs a good scrub and vac. but lucky if it has a water change. Maybe some snails.yea like aa bunch. Maybe I need to go snorkeling, yea thats it!! LOL Ive lost it this week!!

My purple ric that I got a couple of weeks ago and Sas called "spoiled" because I put a hole in the top of the little conch shell for it to foot. I had previously done this with my man eatter and it worked out quite well. However the ricordea didnt like it and also decided to talk a walk tonight. The other blue one footed good so I moved it to the sand floor, and it too decided to take a freaking walk...so I threw him in a sorta deep crevice and we'll see where he goes. If I ever find him again.

The condi, decided to move around abit in his humble abode, only within his boundrys,, but hes still jumping holes.

The frags from M have not changed to much. At least not the blues, oh they have the blues still for sure! LOL The yuma is still moving in the rubble. but open!
the Zoas and Paly's are open and singing!! A very nice plug in deed!! Mixed!

And took Temp custody of the Grand daughter today.... All kinds of shit happening!! LOL Never a dull moment!

Glad to hear you got the hydrometer thing figured out, sorry I assumed it was a swing arm.

The only problem I have with the pre-built clean up crews is you usually get stuff that is not really going to help you with your current problem. The brittle stars and nassarius snails in this case are detritus eaters and will eat left over food, but they will not eat any algae for you.

You may be better off to just select what you want for algae eating, but then again it may end up being cheaper to get their package.

I looked through my refractometer today and had a thought. A SG of 1.026 would be about the same as 33 ppt. A refractometer usually has both scales, so could the store have been saying 33 referring to ppt or possibly reading it wrong?

At these LFS wrong is a very good possibility!! I think I'll go back to trusting myself. Again today I took water and had it tested.

I tested here first all tested great.

they tested yesterday and said whoa nitrates and phosphate is bad. you need complete water change. all 55 gallons.

test at 3rd place today. phospate nitrate nitrite perfect.

So what does that say?

It says Kim, dump 10 more snails in there, blow all rocks off, scrubb all algea off glass syphon 20 gallons and refill!! Thats what it says to me!! LOL

So guess where im headed.
Right to the couch. it was 94 degrees today, we rode in the unconditioned Tahoe for 4 hrs and im drained. so drained as I may be im off to drain more.. bbl

It always makes you wonder about their testing capability as well. What kind of test did they have that could show phosphate when you have an algae issue? The phosphate is bound up in the algae, so normally our test kits are not able to detect it.

I hope you have cooled down and have a much better day today.
